Erma Lewis
Erma Lewis was born in Portland, Jamaica. She trained and worked as a nurse but was forced to retire after a serious accident in 1991. Since then she has helped others in need both here, in the UK, and abroad.
In 1998, when on holiday in Portland, she saw the need for medical supplies for the local hospital after her hometown experienced serious floods. She established Erma’s Jamaica Hospital Appeal Fund on her return to the UK and has raised funds and collected millions of pounds worth of supplies for hospitals here and abroad.
As the driving force behind the charity, she has assisted a Malawi orphanage and victims of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster, the 2001 Mozambique flood, and the recent tsunami disaster. She also runs the UK wheelchair recycling charity, ‘We Can Do’ which assists the community in the West Midlands.
